Sometimes a busy working mother needs a quiet space all to herself to retreat and revitalize to get ready for the challenges of the day. The renovation and redesign of the master bath gave every indication that this would be that quintessential, magical place.
However, there were several challenges that needed to be addressed. The corner shower and linen closet were too small. A large bathtub dominated the room. Plus, without a make-up vanity or place for ample storage, the entire room had to be reconfigured.
To maximize space, the designer decided to remove the corner shower and closet to create a more sensible layout. Replacing the built-in tub with a free-standing one gives a new feeling of airiness and sophistication to the room. A bidet was taken out in favor of a private Toto water closet. The adjoining master hallway was transformed into a marvelous dressing room - a perfect place to put on jewelry and shoes.
The pièce de résistance is an extraordinary Carrara-marble shower featuring sides of a rich, pillowed brick pattern above the border, herringbone below and a smaller, proportional pattern of honeycomb on the shower floor and complementary marble throughout. The result is a soothing backdrop of cool, textured marble
With a total Kohler system with high-end programmable steam and temperature settings, every morning or evening can be a "take me away Calgon" moment in time.
Crowning the tub is a lovely light fixture draped in translucent beads. The Gatsby-like cream-colored vanity features inlaid antiqued mirrors, curved mullions and a glaze of soft pewter paint over its champagne-colored shell. A luxurious gray velvet-topped Lucite chair nestles below the stunning Hollywood Regency style mirrored make-up table nearby.
The subtle wallpaper has a romantic pearl shimmer that reflects light. White textured linen window treatments rimmed in soft gray and embellished with crystal beads provide privacy in the bath to complete this "great escape."
