Tuscan Treasure

It’s glorious when a designer gets to be involved in everything in a home—from the nuts and bolts of construction to placing bath soaps. The result is that everything flows. There’s a natural harmony where nothing is left to chance. The style—the layout—the furnishings—all make perfect sense.

What We Created

The worldly travelers who bought this lakeside home knew they loved the rich history and warmth of Tuscany. From the great room to the bathrooms, they wanted to bask in Olde World charm combined with modern functionality. They found the perfect “jack-of-all-trades” with Katherine Elizabeth Designs.

Walking through the grand double doors, family and guests get a breathtaking view of the lake through dramatic two-story arched windows. A Juliet balcony rims the room with customized panels that match the staircase railing. Crowning the ceiling is a spectacular gold-leaf medallion, chandelier and two-tone crown molding. The wood-burning fireplace marries two aesthetics—the formality of limestone and the natural quality of rough face stones. Meticulously placed stone “diamonds” are interwoven on the hand-scraped French oak floors.

Many of the built-in pieces in the kitchen look like fine furniture.

With a sage green finish, the refrigerator, freezer and the convenient “set upon” resemble traditional armoires. An island separates the kitchen from the great room. Other attributes include a full service wine bar, stone arches, and a striking copper and wood hood.

People inevitably retreat to the “sunroom,” in the morning or after dinner—nestling into the conversation pit for coffee or wine. Another popular spot is around the pizza oven where pizza-making challenges abound.

Up Stairs and Down Stairs

The serene master bedroom features a handsome limestone fireplace, Italianate painted domed ceiling and award-winning window treatments on the crescent-shaped windows and door. Hidden mechanized blackout shades are cleverly camouflaged behind custom crown molding.

In the jaw-dropping party room or “man cave,” an 18’ carved beam ceiling arches upwards with mounted fish and animals overhead. The room was designed to host multiple groups. In addition to the unique bar fronted in faux cowhide, there are two game tables, a theatre, bar, pool table and comfortable seating areas. A replicated barn door and rustic iron chandelier are other memorable touches.

Throughout this Tuscan treasure, the team at Katherine Elizabeth Designs attended to countless details. The collective effect is that this home transports all to a different time...a different place.
